Yulurlu did a number of similar paintings about her ancestral homeland at Yumurrpa in the Tanami Desert. A great battle once took place here between the Yumurrpa Big Yam People and the Wapurtali Small Yam People who fought each other fiercely with curved and hooked boomerangs. Many died in this bloody skirmish before peace and social harmony was finally restored. Source: Margie West AMThis painting is from ‘Luminous’, a touring exhibition.
