Born in Papunya, 208 kms West of Alice Springs in 1959, Elizabeth Marks’ father passed away when she was young. Elizabeth was brought up by Turkey Tolson Tjupurrula, both later moving to the community of Walungurru (Kintore). Turkey Tolson became famous for his artworks and seniority in traditional law and Elizabeth married Mick Namarari Tjapaltjarri ,who also became renowned for his painting.
Elizabeth meanwhile worked at the Pintupi Homelands Health Service and was a highly proficient health-worker whilst beginning to paint when her husband passed away. Text: Helen Read
