A Warlpiri speaking artist from Lajamanu (Hooker Creek), Japaltjarri painted his land and law, seeping his work with cultural connections and knowledge of his Country. Friend, colleague and fellow law man with Abie Jangala, the men travelled great distances across their Traditional Lands and used similar iconography in their artwork. The iconography relates to the rain and water (Ngapa), ancestors. The long wavy lines are rainbows, markings also associated with body painting for the rain-making ceremonies. Helen Read
