It was a privilege to watch Eubena painting this work over three days in Balgo. The three panel structure was a style suggested and encouraged by the then Art Co-ordinator James Cowan. Several such scale and divisional paintings were created during Cowan’s management time by various artists. Helen Read

“Eubena is one of the true desert people as she was born in the desert and wandered with her family as they lived the hunter gatherer lifestyle. This painting depicts her mother’s country near Williluna, “long way trip-true”. The two tracks dividing the left hand side of the work are marlu (kangaroo) roads. Also shown are two big rockholes with living water and a rockhole known as Warlull. The countryside is rich in mangarjar (bush tucker) such as bush onions (tjurnta). On the right hand side we see trees. Eubena is a senior custodion of this area. Text: Courtesy Warlayirti Artists.
